Appearance and properties

Orange-yellow, heavy oily liquid characterized with a distinct pungent, stifling odour. When in contact with air it quickly evaporates forming a yellow-green gas, which is a highly dangerous agent with irritating and stifling effects.

Application

Synthesis of organic and inorganic substances; bleaching of cellulose, fibrous materials, and paper. Used in the pulp and paper-making industry and in water disinfection.
